Hundreds of dead #fish found in a creek in #Iowa, #USA

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating hundreds dead fish on two-mile stretch of lower Walnut Creek near a popular Des Moines bike trail.

DNR spokesman Anthony Bigger said they estimate 500 to 600 dead fish are in the creek, though he said there could be as many as 1,000. Several people reported dead fish along 63rd Street, a third of a mile south of Interstate Highway 235.

The section with fish kill runs along the Walnut Creek Bike Trail, which led to a high number of reports, according to a DNR news release.

Bigger said the cause is still unknown as the DNR continues their investigation. He said the potential causes include somebody dumping chemicals down their drain, temperature and water main breaks.
